Captain Joe earned his sea legs early in his life as a young fisherman in Lebanon. Captain Joe embarked on many nautical journeys with his father like his ancestors did, the phoenicians. As he sailed the high seas, he developed a taste for good fish and learned how to cook it according to the many tastes of the lands he visited.

Captain Joe’s journeys brought him through Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Turkey, and Lebanon— where he truly mastered the trades of sailing, fishing and cuisine. Moving from European lands to Caribbean sands, Captain Joe finally settled in Montreal to start his own family and create a legacy of his own—El Marino was born.

When Captain Joe settled on dry land, he wanted to share the knowledge and experience that he had acquired while at sea with the people of Montreal. This is why Captain Joe created El Marino, this way he would be able to exhibit his culinary passion and knowledge of seafood. Furthermore, he chose to offer all this to us at the best possible prices. Captain Joe quickly earned the nickname of the “Captain of Fresh Fish” because of his keen eye and seasoned know how reguarding seafood. His clients quickly became more than just satisfied customers, but an extention of his own family.
